The Mystics grabbed the lead two and a half minutes into Friday's matchup and stayed ahead of the remainder of the game.
Reese's rebounding and defense combined with offense from Allisha Gray helped the Dream climb back within three points in the second quarter.
Washington stymied Atlanta's first attempt at a comeback by setting a franchise record with nine first-half blocks on their way to securing a 12-point lead at the break.
The Mystics went on to break the single-game franchise record for blocks as Austin reached up for the team's 12th of the game late in the fourth quarter.
The Dream came back to within three points of tying the game with just over half a minute left in regulation, but the visitors were unable to erase the deficit before the final buzzer.
The Mystics have now extended their win streak to six straight games. The win allowed Washington to leapfrog the New York Liberty for the No. 7 seed in the WNBA.
The Dream, which headed into Friday's matchup in possession of the league's tightly contested fourth seed, will look to get back into the win column Monday against the Toronto Tempo.
