Stefon Diggs Says He's NFL's Best WR1 'In My Heart' After Commanders Contract in Free Agency

Stefon Diggs believes that he's NFL's best No. 1 wide receiver after recently joining the Washington Commanders in free agency.

"I say two on camera, but in my heart, I'm going to say [best] No. 1," Diggs said Friday, per ESPN's John Keim.

The four-time Pro Bowler was previously confident that he was the top No. 2 receiver in the league.

"My opinion, I can compete with anybody," Diggs said in a July 8 video posted on his YouTube channel (h/t ESPN). "But take those [top wide receivers] as your 1s, right? You can't name a No. 2 better than me."

"There's not a No. 2 on a team -- let's presumably give people the credit and just say, 'OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away,'" he added. "Name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes, and then my last question is: Is he better than me?"

Diggs signed a one-year deal worth up to $12 million with the Commanders as a free agent on Wednesday.

He spent the 2025 season as a member of the New England Patriots, catching 85 passes and ranking No. 16 among all players with 1,013 receiving yards. Diggs also found the end zone four times.

While the 32-year-old may no longer be able to perform at the same level that helped him lead the NFL in receptions and receiving yards in 2020, his individual production during his 2025 campaign was still impressive considering his age.

Now, Diggs will look to establish himself as a key piece of the Commanders' passing attack as they attempt to bounce back from a 5-12 finish last season.
