Charles Aranguiz to Bayer Leverkusen: Latest Transfer Details, Reaction and More
Bundesliga club Bayer Leverkusen have confirmed the signing of Chilean midfielder Charles Aranguiz from Internacional on a five-year deal.
Sky Sports' Paulo Freitas reports the fee at €13 million (£9.2 million), with the Brazilian side set to receive 20 per cent of any future transfer earnings.
On completion of the 26-year-old's medical, Bayer made the announcement of his signing on Thursday. As can be seen below, Aranguiz has much to offer the German club:
The switch gives the talented Aranguiz his first opportunity to play club football in Europe, and he credited international team-mate and former Bayer player Arturo Vidal with convincing him to make the switch, per DW Sports:
"The Bundesliga is one of the best and most attractive leagues in the world. Bayer have been among the top teams for years. My national team-mate Arturo Vidal has raved about Leverkusen, so I wanted to join this club."
The confirmation of the move comes as something of a blow for Premier League clubs Arsenal, Chelsea and Leicester City, who were all previously linked with the versatile midfielder, reported by Charles Perrin in the Express.
Per German outlet the Rheinische Post (h/t ESPN FC), Leicester were even reported to have made a higher bid than Bayer for Aranguiz, the Foxes having tabled a bid worth €15 million (£10.7 million).
However, he has opted for a switch to the Bundesliga and should be a fine addition to the Bayer midfield, which already includes the likes of Lars Bender and Christoph Kramer.
