Kenyon Sadiq's Injury Timeline Updated by Jets' Aaron Glenn After Hernia Setback

New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn expressed confidence Thursday that rookie tight end Kenyon Sadiq will be ready for the start of the 2026 NFL season despite dealing with a hernia issue.

According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, Glenn said Sadiq will miss "a couple of weeks" during training camp, but he should be good to go in time for the regular season.

Glenn's comments came two days after he told reporters that the No. 16 overall pick in the 2026 NFL draft had a "little setback" in relation to a hernia surgery he underwent in May.

While Glenn didn't initially provide a timeline for Sadiq's return on Tuesday, he noted that he was "very confident" he would be ready for the team's regular-season opener against the Tennessee Titans on Sept. 13.

Sadiq, 21, was the first tight end selected in the 2026 NFL draft, and the only one to come off the board in the first round.

He enjoyed a strong junior season at Oregon in 2025 to put himself in the first-round conversation, catching 51 passes for 560 yards and eight touchdowns, all of which were career highs.

Sadiq was named a Second Team All-American and the Big Ten Tight End of the Year by virtue of his performance.

The Jets entered the 2026 NFL draft with plenty of needs on both sides of the ball, as they went just 3-14 last season.

After using their first of three first-round picks on Texas Tech EDGE David Bailey, the Jets addressed their offense by taking Sadiq 16th overall and Indiana wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. 30th overall.

Running back Breece Hall and wide receiver Garrett Wilson will be back in the fold as the Jets' offensive cornerstones in 2026, but there should be plenty of opportunities for others to step up as key contributors, including Sadiq.

However, Sadiq was never a lock to begin the 2026 season as the Jets' starting tight end even with a fully healthy camp.

New York has a solid amount of depth at the tight end position, led by 2025 second-round pick Mason Taylor, who led the team in receptions (44) and was second on the team in receiving yardage (369) as a rookie.

The Jets also have a pair of 2022 third-round picks in Jeremy Ruckert and Jelani Woods on the roster at tight end, so they have plenty of quality options to fill in for Sadiq until he is healthy.
