Freddie Freeman Injury Update After HBP, Dodgers Star Jokes About 'Swinging at a Ball at My Face'

Both Freddie Freeman and manager Dave Roberts confirmed Wednesday that the Los Angeles Dodgers star should be back in the lineup Friday after getting hit on the hand while offering at a pitch during a 7-6 loss against the Chicago Cubs.

Freeman was pulled from the game to undergo X-rays.

Losing Freeman would have been particularly brutal for a Dodgers team trying to fight through a six-game losing streak, its longest of the 2026 campaign.

"We do need to put it together," Freeman told reporters after the contest. "It's what, 50 games left? We all want to play better. ... Some off days are not at the right time. I think tomorrow comes at the right time."

Freeman, 36, is having yet another strong season, hitting .310 with 15 homers, 54 RBI, 57 runs and a .871 OPS. The former MVP and three-time champion earned his 10th All-Star bid this season as he continues to hit at a high level.

The Dodgers certainly will be glad he's healthy, as the team is already dealing with a slew of injuries. Catcher Dalton Rushing may be done for the season with a UCL tear, Shohei Ohtani isn't currently pitching due to left knee soreness and right biceps discomfort, and starters Blake Snell and Tyler Glasnow, and catcher Will Smith, remain sidelined.

Add in the team's major free-agency addition this past winter, Kyle Tucker, underachieving at the plate (.722 OPS), and a Freeman absence would have left the Dodgers with a massive hole in their lineup. Thankfully for them it appears Freeman escaped the situation without any major issue.
