Conor McGregor Undergoes Surgery, Releases 1st Statement in New Injury Update with Cigar Photo

Conor McGregor's most recent surgery was a success.

The UFC fighter released an update on Wednesday that included a photograph of him with a cigar and the caption, "Surgery went excellent! I am confident."

This comes after he announced Monday he was undergoing the fifth surgery of his career after he suffered ACL and meniscus injuries during his loss to Max Holloway at UFC 329.

Despite the setback, McGregor didn't think he would miss significant time.

Last month, he took to Instagram and said, "It is the same injury as the first Holloway fight, only this time the opposite leg. Quite shocking. I returned to competition within 9 months to fight Diego Brandao back then. With today's regenerative medicine advancements and improved training methods it is well within my realm to return by next summer."

While McGregor remains one of the UFC's biggest stars, he has fought just five times since 2016. And even with his optimistic outlook, his immediate future will depend on how he bounces back from surgery at 38 years old.

His loss to Holloway last month was his first fight in five years, and it lasted fewer than two minutes.

McGregor fell to the ground after throwing a kick early in the fight. While he continued after the setback, the referee eventually called the fight and gave Holloway the TKO victory.

After the loss, McGregor called for another fight against Holloway at UFC's International Fight Week in 2027.

If that is going to happen, he will need a relatively quick recovery from his latest surgery.
