Bijan Robinson Reveals Text from Matthew McConaughey After Landing Historic Falcons Contract

Matthew McConaughey was one of the first people to congratulate Bijan Robinson on signing his historic contract extension with the Atlanta Falcons.

Robinson said Wednesday McConaughey texted him within two minutes of the contract news breaking.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported Tuesday just before 9 a.m. ET Robinson had agreed to a three-year deal worth up to $75 million.

The deal, which NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported had a base value of $22.25 million per year, made Robinson the highest-paid running back in NFL history.

McConaughey, a longtime Texas fan who has been officially named the Longhorns' "Minister of Culture," first met Robinson when the running back was a high school junior on a recruiting visit to the school in 2019.

Robinson went on to star for Texas from 2020 to 2022. He described McConaughey as a mentor before the Falcons selected him in the 2023 draft.

Robinson, who recorded a career-high 1,478 rushing yards in 17 games for the Falcons last season, had been holding in from training camp amid his bid for a new contract.

He was back in practice Tuesday but was held out of team drills while building up to a full return, per AtlantaFalcons.com's Tori McElhaney.
