NFL DC Says Cowboys' Dak Prescott Has 'S--t the Bed' In Playoff Losses, 'It's Been Consistent'

One NFL defensive coordinator feels Dak Prescott can't be ranked among the league's top quarterbacks until he leads the Dallas Cowboys on a playoff run, according to The Athletic's Mike Sando.

"He's a [second-tier quarterback] until he can do it when it matters," the DC told Sando as part of his second annual survey in which coaches and executives rank NFL signal callers.

The coordinator continued, per Sando: "If he was out there (on the market), everybody would want him, but can he get you over the hump?

"He will have a great season, they will be really good offensively, then they will get to the playoffs, and he will s--t the bed. It's been consistent over his career."

The Cowboys have marked a 83-55-1 record with Prescott playing through his decade-long tenure with the franchise.

Prescott and the Cowboys have gone 2-5 in the playoffs over that same span. The franchise's lone two wins in the Prescott era took place in the Wild Card round prior to divisional round losses in 2018 and 2022.

During the Cowboys' most recent playoff run following the 2023 season, Prescott and his team were eliminated from the Wild Card round by the Green Bay Packers.

Prescott posted 403 passing yards and three touchdowns in the loss, but he threw a pair of interceptions in the first half and recorded two of his touchdowns when the blowout loss was already out of reach in the fourth quarter.

The Cowboys then missed the playoffs after losing Prescott to injury in 2024 and again despite a 4,500 passing-yard campaign from their star quarterback in 2025.

Prescott may have to both lead the Cowboys back to the postseason and help his team win at least one playoff game before he can land as a consensus top-tier quarterback in Sando's next survey.
