Bam Adebayo Calls Girlfriend A'ja Wilson's Success 'Breathtaking' amid WNBA MVP Race

Miami Heat star Bam Adebayo lauded girlfriend A'ja Wilson as the Las Vegas Aces center goes for a fifth WNBA MVP.

Adebayo told The Athletic's James Jackson that Wilson is achieving something "historic."

"I don't even know how you put a word to what she's doing," he said. "It's really breathtaking to see somebody continue to raise the bar. She's a great person to look up to."

The Minnesota Lynx's Olivia Miles could perhaps make this more of a race down the stretch as the rookie guard turns heads with each passing game. Right now, Wilson is the heavy MVP favorite.

The three-time WNBA champion is averaging 26.8 points on 53.2 percent shooting along with 9.8 rebounds, 32 assists, 1.6 steals and 2.0 blocks.

Wilson keeps adding new wrinkles to her game as well. Her 28 made three-pointers are approaching her single-season best (31), and she's more efficient than ever (43.8 percent) from beyond the arc.

In their quest for a fourth title in five years, the Aces are second in the WNBA at 20-9, and Wilson is the single biggest reason why. Las Vegas' net rating falls from plus-12.0 to minus-11.8 when she goes to the bench, per WNBA.com.

Wilson's four MVPs already put her alone in league history. With five, she'd be chasing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar's six for the most between the NBA and WNBA.

Fans can occasionally be hyperbolic when comparing an active star with legends of the past. It's not an exaggeration to say Wilson is on a trajectory to be the best women's player since at least the inception of the WNBA in 1997 and perhaps further back than that.

To Adebayo's point, you run out of platitudes at a certain point to describe what Wilson is doing on a nightly basis.
