New Yankees Trade Rumors on Will Warren and Padres Revealed Ahead of 2026 MLB Deadline

Conflicting reports surround the New York Yankees ahead of Monday's 6 p.m. ET trade deadline.

USA Today's Bob Nightengale reported Sunday that the San Diego Padres rejected a trade that would have sent Adrian Morejon to the Yankees in exchange for starter Will Warren.

However, The Athletic's Brendan Kuty and Dennis Lin reported Monday morning that a source said the "Yankees never even made a Warren-for-Morejon formal offer to the Padres." Kuty and Lin noted that while "the Yankees have checked in with the Padres on the reliever, it's unclear what exactly the sides have discussed regarding a potential trade for Morejon."

New York landing another key bullpen pitcher would have been a case of the rich getting richer, considering it is second in the majors in bullpen ERA behind only the rival Boston Red Sox.

And Morejon would have been quite an addition.

He was an All-Star last season and has been solid for the Padres once again this season with a 3.07 ERA, 1.09 WHIP and 67 strikeouts in 58.2 innings. It is a step back from last season when he posted a sparkling 2.08 ERA, but he has still been effective.

San Diego is still in the middle of the National League playoff race, so not wanting to give him up Warren wouldn't be that surprising if they were contacted to trade him.

San Diego is one game behind the Philadelphia Phillies and Arizona Diamondbacks for a wild-card spot and just has to pass one of them to be in postseason position. It is also just a half-game ahead of the Miami Marlins in a crowded race.

As for Warren, he has made 22 starts this season with a 4.14 ERA, 1.36 WHIP and 109 strikeouts in 108.2 innings. While he hasn't been a dominant arm in New York's rotation, he has been a solid inning-eater and has helped make up for some injury concerns in the rotation.

For now, he remains with the Bronx Bombers.
