Myles Garrett Injury Discussed by Rams' Sean McVay as Star Is Set to Miss 4th Straight Practice

Los Angeles Rams superstar edge-rusher Myles Garrett is set to miss a fourth day of practice on Monday due to lower-body soreness, though the team isn't too concerned with the situation.

"Nothing to worry about, so we're erring on the side of being smart with him," head coach Sean McVay told reporters Sunday. "Reggie [Scott, the team's senior director of sports medicine and performance] and those guys do such a great job, and he is as tough as it gets. So, we want to make sure that he feels as good as possible. As you know, guys that have played a lot of football, we've got a lot of opportunities to be able to get better, but we also want to make sure we're getting an understanding of how best to work with him. He's been outstanding, but there was a little bit of soreness. We said, 'Let's err on the side of caution.' Then, we'll see. He won't be on tomorrow either, and then we'll see what it looks like after the day off. I don't want to put the cart before the horse, but I would expect him to be ready to go in the next block."

The Rams made the biggest splash of the NFL offseason when they traded defensive end Jared Verse and a 2027 first-rounder, 2028 second-rounder and 2029 third-rounder for Garrett.

Retooling the defense was clearly an offseason priority, as the team also traded a first-round pick for cornerback Trent McDuffie and signed corner Jaylen Watson.

With apologies to Aaron Donald, there hasn't been a more impactful defensive player in the past decade than Garrett. The 30-year-old is a seven-time Pro Bowler, five-time first-team All-Pro selection and a two-time Defensive Player of the Year who is fresh off a 23-sack season and has posted double-digit sacks in eight straight years.

He's also been durable, missing just two games in the past five years. But you can understand why Rams fans would be nervous about him missing time this week, even if the organization is downplaying any concerns.

"We are erring on the side of caution," McVay told reporters. "He's had checkups, all that kind of stuff, so there's nothing to worry about. It's more about how do we keep him as fresh as possible while getting the necessary callous, if you will, to feel as good as possible so that when we do play in Australia, he's ready to play and do his thing. But there's no reason for concern, and I look forward to getting him back out there."
