New Giants Trade Rumors on Luis Arraez Pursuit by Yankees, Phillies, Rays, Rangers at MLB Deadline

Ahead of Monday's trade deadline, San Francisco Giants second baseman Luis Arraez is reportedly being eyed by multiple teams.

According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Philadelphia Phillies, Tampa Bay Rays and Texas Rangers are among the teams pursuing Arraez. Heyman noted that the New York Yankees "like" the 29-year-old, but "positional fit might be an issue for them."

Arraez can play multiple positions, but Heyman noted that he "prefers to stay" at second base, where he's "thrived" this year in San Francisco. The Yankees already have Jazz Chisholm Jr. occupying second base, so they could be out of the running to acquire the three-time batting champion.

After signing a one-year deal with the Giants this past offseason, Arraez has remained as consistent as ever, leading MLB with a .328 batting average while adding four home runs, 43 RBI and 10 stolen bases. He earned his fourth career All-Star selection, but his individual excellence hasn't been enough to save San Francisco's disappointing season, as the team ranks fourth in the NL West with a 47-64 record.

Trading Arraez could be the best way for the Giants to recoup assets for the future. His ability to put the ball in play makes him an incredibly valuable player for any team that makes it to the playoffs, so San Francisco could command a high price for him.

With the trade deadline just over 24 hours away, the race for Arraez is sure to heat up. The team that lands the veteran slugger could position itself as one of the top World Series title contenders this year.
