Joel Embiid, Josh Hart, CC Sabathia and Sports World Reacts to Tarik Skubal's Trade to Dodgers

The signs were all pointing toward the eventual trade of two-time Cy Young winner Tarik Skubal. News of his move to the Los Angeles Dodgers still sent social media into a frenzy.

There will be more trades ahead of Monday's 6 p.m. ET deadline.

The San Francisco Giants will probably move second baseman Luis Arraez because keeping him through the deadline makes little sense. The New York Mets could reach the same conclusion on pitchers Clay Holmes and Freddy Peralta. The Tigers could try to cash out on another pitcher, Casey Mize, if they're prepared to fully wave the white flag.

But whatever comes next will pale in comparison to the effect of Skubal landing in L.A.

There's the impact it will have on the 2026 World Series race on top of the looming battle over a new collective bargaining agreement.

The Skubal trade isn't the one thing that would trigger a lockout. ESPN's Jeff Passan cited a source in February who said MLB owners "are ready to burn the f--king house down" in an effort to bring a salary cap to baseball. The players' union has been preparing for months in the event there's lost revenue from postponed or canceled games in 2027.

But the Dodgers' newest acquisition will undoubtedly be another example cited by those who say MLB's financial structure is unsustainable.

Should Skubal play a key role in L.A. winning another title, social media will once again be equal parts praising the Dodgers and looking ahead to a possible work stoppage in 2027.
