Devin White, Lions Reportedly Agree to Contract, Former Raiders LB Ranked 3rd in Tackles in 2025

The Detroit Lions signed free-agent linebacker Devin White to a one-year contract on Saturday, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz.

Detroit was "quietly exploring a move" at linebacker prior to adding White, per Schultz.

The 28-year-old started all 17 games for the Las Vegas Raiders last season, as his 174 combined tackles ranked No. 3 in the NFL.

He also recorded 11 tackles for loss, seven quarterback hits, three passes defended and 2.5 sacks.

While White was productive last season, he also displayed opportunities for improvement. He amassed 26 missed tackles and allowed a 92.5 passer rating in coverage, according to Pro Football Focus.

White was initially selected with the No. 5 overall pick in the 2019 NFL draft by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. After starting 13 games as a rookie, he earned a Second Team All-Pro selection for his sophomore season in 2020 before receiving a Pro Bowl nod for his 2021 campaign. He also helped the Bucs win the Super Bowl after the 2020 season.

White eventually signed with the Philadelphia Eagles after the 2023 season, but dealt with ankle issues and couldn't earn playing time with the team before he was released. He later joined the Houston Texans, appearing in seven games before the end of the year.

The Lions could use more depth at linebacker while they prepare for their 2026 campaign, as fourth-round rookie Jimmy Rolder exited practice with a leg injury on Saturday.

Rolder will "miss some time" before he recovers, per Schultz.

Now, White will join Detroit's linebacking corps as the team looks to contend in the NFC North this year.
