Deshaun Watson Addresses INTs, Injury Concerns amid Shedeur Sanders Browns QB1 Battle in New Videos

Amid the ongoing quarterback competition with Shedeur Sanders, Deshaun Watson isn't concerned about some of his turnover issues early in Cleveland Browns training camp and is primarily focused on staying healthy.

Speaking to reporters after Saturday's practice, Watson explained the interceptions are the result of a combination of trying to get timing down with the receivers and the Browns having a "really, really good defense" that is capable of making plays.

Watson also expressed how much he is "looking forward" to getting on the field in preseason games coming off two Achilles injuries that have kept him out of action since October 2024.

Browns head coach Todd Monken has alternated between Watson and Sanders taking first-team reps each day in training camp as the staff evaluates the two to determine who will be the starter when the regular season begins.

Watson got to work with the ones on the first day of camp on Wednesday, then Sanders got his turn on Thursday, then back to Watson on Friday, etc.

Even though there are no official stats from training camp, ESPN Cleveland's tracking from the first three days has Watson's line at 46-of-71 (64.8 percent) with no touchdowns and three interceptions.

Sanders, by comparison, is at 51-of-69 (73.9 percent) with no touchdowns and no interceptions. The numbers from Saturday's practice haven't been posted at this point.

Two of Watson's picks came on back-to-back plays on Wednesday. It is perhaps notable that all three of his interceptions have come on days when he was working with the first-team offense.

The most important thing for Watson right now is getting through camp healthy. He ruptured his right Achilles twice in the span of three months between October 2024 and January 2025.

Given the nature of that injury and lengthy rehab process, Watson showing some rust in his first few days back at camp is to be expected. He's also learning a new offense with Monken replacing Kevin Stefanski, who was fired in January after six seasons.

The Browns are still two weeks away from their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears on Aug. 15, so Watson has time to get his feet under him as the coaches evaluate the competition with Sanders.
