Dean Kremer Reportedly Traded to Twins Ahead of MLB Deadline, Orioles Get Prospect in Deal

The Baltimore Orioles are reportedly parting ways with right-hander Dean Kremer days after he started one of the worst shutout losses in modern franchise history.

The Orioles are trading Kremer to the Minnesota Twins ahead of the Monday trade deadline, The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal reported.

The Twins sent outfielder prospect Jhomnardo Reyes to the Orioles in return, per The Athletic's Dan Hayes.

Kremer is playing on a one-year, $5.75 million deal and remains under team control through 2027, per Spotrac.

He spent more than two months on the injured list due to a right quad strain earlier this season, but when available has recorded 6.50 ERA and 1.361 WHIP over seven starts.

The 30-year-old is owed about $1.7 million for the remainder of the season, according to Rosenthal.

Reyes, 18, has split most of this season between rookie league and Single-A ball.

He was ranked as the No. 24 prospect in the Twins organization with an estimated MLB arrival year of 2030 by MLB Pipeline.

The trade came days after Kremer allowed a career-high eight runs in four innings of the Orioles' 14-0 loss at the Detroit Tigers on Tuesday.

That loss marked the end of a difficult stretch for Kremer, who has gone 1-3 with a 7.56 ERA in the month of July.

Kremer was initially drafted by the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2016. He was traded to the Orioles as part of the 2018 Manny Machado trade and made his debut with the team in 2020.

He has spent the last four seasons as a regular part of the Orioles' rotation while pitching a 3.95 ERA for the club between 2022 and 2025.

The Twins will now hope Kremer is able to find some of that previous command on the mound as the .500 club looks to add pitching depth before making a push for the postseason.

Twins general manager Jeremy Zoll said earlier this week his team would be buyers at the deadline with a "clear focus" on improving the bullpen, per MLB.com's Matthew Leach.

The Twins have followed up by acquiring left-handed reliever A.J. Minter from the New York Mets prior to dealing for Kremer.
