New Tarik Skubal Trade Rumors on Tigers' 'Enormous' Asking Price Amid Dodgers Buzz Before Deadline

Julia StumbaughJul 31, 2026

The Detroit Tigers are expecting a haul in exchange for potentially moving ace Tarik Skubal ahead of the Monday trade deadline.

The New York Post's Jon Heyman reported Friday multiple MLB executives described the Tigers' asking price for Skubal as "enormous."

The MLB trade window closes Monday at 6 p.m. ET.

Heyman's comment comes after MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported one MLB executive called the general prices ahead of the deadline "astronomical."

The Athletic's Ken Rosenthal and Cody Stavenhagen recently noted that as of Friday afternoon the Tigers "had yet to seriously engage clubs in trade discussions" involving Skubal.

Rosenthal and Will Sammon previously reported for The Athletic the Tigers will be looking for "a controllable starting pitcher plus quality prospects" in exchange for Skubal.

Per Feinsand, the "most likely landing spots" for Skubal are seen as the Los Angeles Dodgers, Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, Atlanta Braves and Chicago Cubs.

The New York Yankees and Philadelphia Phillies are interested but more unlikely contenders to sign Skubal, Feinsand reported.

ESPN's Alden Gonzalez previously reported rival evaluators felt the Dodgers could make the Tigers the best offer because of the depth of their outfield and pitching prospect pipelines.

Skubal, the two-time reigning AL Cy Young Award winner, missed more than a month earlier this season after undergoing a procedure on his left elbow.

When available he has remained effective, recording a 2.61 ERA and 0.910 WHIP over 16 games and 96.2 innings pitched.

Whether a club is willing to pay what the Tigers are seeking for the remainder of Skubal's expiring contract could depend at least in part on what his medical records show about the health of his elbow.
