Giants 'Suspending Payment' to Harrison Bader Amid Investigation into Injury From Scooter Crash

The San Francisco Giants are suspending payment to center fielder Harrison Bader following the scooter accident that re-injured his left foot.

Giants president of baseball operations Buster Posey said in a statement shared by NBC Sports' Alex Pavlovic the Giants "are still investigating the circumstances of the accident."

The Giants "will be suspending payment to Harrison until he is able to resume performing services for the club," Posey concluded.

Bader had been sidelined since May 29 with plantar fasciitis in his left foot. Giants manager Tony Vitello said Thursday that Bader will not return this season, per Pavlovic.

"There's a chance it could delay whatever the recovery process is for him, but again, even prior to it, we're looking at a pretty frustrating and long runway before he can get on the field again," Vitello said Thursday about Bader.

Vitello also said he did not have "any specifics" as to what had happened to Bader in the accident.

The Giants initially said in a Tuesday statement shared by NBC Sports' Angelina Martin that Bader was set to meet Monday with a specialist about his existing foot issue.

"The meeting was complicated by the fact that [Bader] had a scooter accident on Saturday night/early Sunday morning and further injured his same foot (left)," the release stated, according to Martin. "The impact of that injury changed the nature of his evaluation, which had originally been to determine the severity of the initial injury/condition (left plantar fasciitis)."

Bader returned to San Francisco on Monday and was set to undergo an MRI on his new injury Tuesday, per MLB.com's Maria Guardado.

The Giants initially signed Bader to a two-year, $20.5 million deal this offseason.

He received a $6 million signing bonus and was set to receive $4.5 million in salary, about $1.48 million of which was still owed at the time of the accident, per USA Today's Gabe Lacques.

Bader missed time with a left hamstring injury early in the season and struggled when available, slashing .170/.198/.358 with five home runs and 14 RBI in 30 games.

The Giants could for now turn to Grant McCray or Drew Gilbert at center field while potentially targeting the position this offseason.
