New Tarik Skubal Trade Rumors on Tigers' Talks Amid Dodgers Buzz Ahead of 2026 MLB Deadline
The Detroit Tigers haven't had serious discussions with other teams about trading left-handed ace starting pitcher Tarik Skubal as of Friday afternoon, per Ken Rosenthal and Cody Stavenhagen of The Athletic.
"As of this afternoon, the Detroit Tigers had yet to seriously engage clubs in trade discussions involving ace left-hander Tarik Skubal, according to people with two interested clubs who were granted anonymity for their candor."
The MLB trade deadline is Monday at 6 p.m. ET. Per Robert Murray of Fansided, the Los Angeles Dodgers appear to be the favorite to get Skubal.
"Most officials that FanSided has spoken with over the last 48 hours have predicted that Skubal will end up with the Los Angeles Dodgers," Murray wrote.
"One predicted that the Tampa Bay Rays would land Skubal. Another predicted on Thursday afternoon that he would go to the Milwaukee Brewers."
While serious talks reportedly haven't started yet, one can surmise that they will shortly.
Signs are pointing toward Skubal's time with the Tigers being done shortly, as partially evidenced by the standing ovation he got following his last start against the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday.
ESPN's Jeff Passan has even go so far to say that the expectation is Skubal will be traded.
As summarized by Thomas Harrigan of MLB.com on Thursday, seven teams have been linked to Skubal recently: The Dodgers, New York Yankees, Atlanta Braves Milwaukee Brewers, Tampa Bay Rays, Chicago Cubs and Philadelphia Phillies.
Skubal is a pending free agent who could get a massive, potentially market-setting contract this offseason. He is a reigning two-time American League Cy Young winner who has continued his dominance this year over 16 starts (7-5, 2.79 ERA, 0.91 WHIP, 116 strikeouts). Skubal will understandably command a massive haul, and we'll find out soon the winner of this fight to land the superstar.
