Chiefs Eye Super Bowl, Final Four in New $3B Dome Stadium Replacing Arrowhead Stadium

The Kansas City Chiefs have their eyes set on hosting NFL and college playoff events once the team's new enclosed stadium opens in 2031.

Chiefs president Mark Donovan said Friday the franchise has been pursuing hosting bids for both Super Bowls and NCAA Tournament games.

"We have been in discussions with the NFL about Super Bowls in '33, '34, '35," Donovan said. "We have been in discussions, very preliminary discussions, but we are aggressively pursuing Final Fours."

Donovan continued, "We are going to be very, very aggressive. We're probably going to be early bidders on most things."

The Chiefs released renderings earlier this month of the club's new domed stadium, which is scheduled to open in Kansas in 2031.

The team has played at Arrowhead Stadium, an open-air stadium located on the Missouri side of Kansas City, since 1972.

Donovan acknowledged Friday he felt it would be a "challenge" for the Chiefs to win event bids before construction of the stadium has been completed. As of Donovan's Friday press conference, the Chiefs had yet to break ground on the project.

"If you're the NCAA, you're trying to put stability into your future planning," Donovan said. "They're trying to lock in all these dates. We don't have a building yet, and we don't want to be knocked out of those, because they've locked in so many so far out."

The NCAA has already announced Final Four sites through 2031 in Detroit, Las Vegas, Indianapolis, Arlington and Atlanta.

The Super Bowl locations are locked in through 2030 in Inglewood, Atlanta, Las Vegas and Nashville.

Eleven NFL teams played in 10 domed stadiums during the 2025 season, but five more including the Chiefs are set to have joined them by 2031 (h/t Sports Business Journal's Ben Fischer and Bret McCormick).

The Chiefs may be looking to beat out other teams preparing to move to enclosed stadiums, including the Tennessee Titans, Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns and Washington Commanders, by getting in early on the bidding for marquee 2030s events.
