Jarren Duran Addresses Heated Reaction at Willson Contreras on Video After Red Sox's Win vs. A's

Boston Red Sox left fielder Jarren Duran discussed his frustrated reaction to teammate Willson Contreras during the team's 5-4 win over the Athletics on Thursday.

"That's nothing. It's something that, within the team that we have, that we work on. It's nothing. You guys don't need to know," Duran said after the game, per MLB.com's Ian Browne. "Nobody needs to know. That's something between us and the team that we know what it's about. So that doesn't really matter."

With runners at the corners and one out in the top of the sixth inning, Duran hit a shallow fly ball to left field. After Contreras didn't tag up from third base, Duran appeared to yell in his direction while he walked back to the dugout.

The score was tied 3-3 at the time.

Contreras, who was held at third by interim third base coach Chad Epperson, didn't take the incident personally.

"I wasn't sure [what made Duran upset]," Contreras said, per Browne. "I mean, I love Jarren. He's one of the guys that plays with emotions. Plays 100 percent. We love him here, and he is one of the guys that if I need to go to war, I'm gonna pick him because he's going to give his 100 percent.

"I saw him doing some stuff, but I would not take that personally. I love the guy, and we need the guy here. We need his energy, and I don't know. I haven't talked to him yet, but it's nothing personal."

The Red Sox have excelled as of late, putting themselves back in the American League postseason picture with a 57-51 record after sitting at just 29-43 on June 18.

Still, Duran hasn't been able to exceed expectations this year. He owns a career-low .195 batting average in 101 games, recording 10 doubles and 13 home runs to go along with 54 RBI.

As for Contreras, he's served as a crucial piece of Boston's lineup in 2026. The four-time All-Star has racked up a team-high 23 home runs and 67 RBI, posting a .944 OPS.
