New Mets Rumors on Freddy Peralta's Trade Value amid Cubs, Phillies, Braves, Rays Buzz

As the clock continues to tick away ahead of the MLB trade deadline on Monday, the New York Mets are reportedly seeking a strong return if they move Freddy Peralta.

Per The Athletic's Will Sammon and Ken Rosenthal, the Mets have asked interested teams for a "top-100 prospect and more" in their early conversations about a Peralta deal.

Sammon and Rosenthal cited the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies, Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays as the clubs showing the "strongest interest" in Peralta, but every team seeking rotation help is casting a wide net at this point.

That's a significant ask from the Mets side for a player who has underperformed so far in 2026 and is set to become a free agent after the season.

Looking back at recent history, it has been difficult for teams trading away quality starters in their walk year to get significant value back.

The closest parallel might be from July 2024 when Jack Flaherty was acquired by the Los Angeles Dodgers from the Detroit Tigers. Flaherty was playing well for the Tigers at the time of the deal with a 2.98 ERA, but he was going to become a free agent in the offseason.

Los Angeles gave up prospects Thayron Liranzo and Trey Sweeney in the deal, neither of whom ranked among MLB.com's top 100 at the time. Liranzo was the No. 8 prospect in the Dodgers' system.

Peralta's value wouldn't seem to be particularly high as he boasts a 4.99 ERA in 113.2 innings this season. He is on pace to have the worst ERA and highest WHIP (1.48) in his career with at least 100 innings pitched.

The Mets would be essentially looking to replace most, if not all, of the value they gave up by sending prospects Brandon Sproat and Jett Williams to the Milwaukee Brewers when they acquired Peralta in January.

One thing working in the Mets' favor is having so many teams in the mix for Peralta, which allows them to drive up the price with the deadline approaching on Monday at 6 p.m. ET.

The big domino expected to fall is Tarik Skubal, but the clubs that don't land him might be inclined to make a move for Peralta and bet on a strong close to the season if he goes to a situation set up to compete for a playoff spot.
