Shohei Ohtani's Injury Status Updated By Dodgers' Dave Roberts Amid Knee, Bicep Issues

Los Angeles Dodgers superstar Shohei Ohtani is resting against the Seattle Mariners on Thursday due to left knee soreness, per manager Dave Roberts to reporters.

Ohtani has remained in the batting order despite left knee inflammation that has forced him off the pitcher's mound since July 3 (the issue first came to light on June 11 in a game against the Pittsburgh Pirates).

However, Roberts revealed on Tuesday that Ohtani has also dealt with a right biceps issue, per Courtney Hollmon of MLB.com.

"Roberts disclosed that Ohtani's mound progression was paused not just due to left knee inflammation, but also a right biceps issue. Discomfort in the biceps first surfaced in early July when Ohtani was removed as a precaution during a start against the Padres. Compensating for lower body discomfort during subsequent throwing sessions placed unintended stress on his upper half -- prompting the Dodgers to halt his bullpen work altogether."

Without Ohtani, here's a look at the Dodgers' lineup vs. Seattle. Of note, Teoscar Hernández slides to designated hitter, and Kiké Hernandez, who was activated from the injured list on Tuesday (oblique), will play left.

Ohtani was enjoying a fantastic series against Seattle with 5 hits (home run, two doubles, two singles) in eight at-bats alongside four RBI and a pair of runs.

For the season, the four-time league MVP has hit .289 (.931 OPS) with 23 home runs and 65 RBI. He has dominated on the mound, going 8-2 with a 1.79 ERA and 95 strikeouts in 85.2 innings.

While it's unclear when Ohtani will pitch again, Thursday's absence thankfully doesn't appear to indicate any longer-term concern that would prevent him from being in the lineup.
