Todd Monken Talks 'Awesome' Deion Sanders Linkup at Browns Camp amid Shedeur Sanders QB1 Battle

Cleveland Browns head coach Todd Monken enjoyed talking with Colorado head coach and NFL legend Deion Sanders at training camp while his son, Shedeur, battles for Cleveland's starting quarterback spot.

"Everything that he's achieved, that was awesome," Monken told reporters on Thursday.

"We just started telling stories and we really didn't get to almost any football," he added. "We got into NIL and Jackson State and Colorado and how we almost drafted him in Baltimore, that crazy scenario, and what a great job Shedeur's done since I've been here in terms of his development. It was good. It was part-coach, part-father which is what it should be."

Monken also revealed that he received insight on Shedeur from Deion as the second-year passer took first-team reps on Thursday.

Shedeur is competing with veteran Deshaun Watson for the Browns' No. 1 quarterback spot, although Monken doesn't have a definitive timeline before he names a starter.

After playing under Deion at Jackson State and Colorado, Cleveland selected Shedeur with a fifth-round pick in the 2025 NFL draft.

He appeared in eight games as a rookie, completing 56.6 percent of his throws for 1,400 yards and seven touchdowns to go along with 10 interceptions.

The Browns will attempt to improve upon their 5-12 finish last year and take a step forward offensively under Monken, who was hired as their head coach on Jan. 28 after previously serving at the Baltimore Ravens' offensive coordinator.
