Phillies, Blue Jays Reportedly Viewed as 'Trade Partners' at 2026 Deadline amid New MLB Rumors

There could be a trade in the works between the Philadelphia Phillies and Toronto Blue Jays.

MLB Network's Jon Morosi reported Thursday the two teams "are emerging as trade partners" ahead of Monday's deadline. The Phillies are struggling of late and could use upgrades before the stretch run, while the Blue Jays could be sellers at nine games under .500.

With that as the backdrop, Morosi listed a number of Toronto veterans, such as Kevin Gausmen, Shane Bieber, Jeff Hoffman, George Springer and Daulton Varsho, who could be available for Philadelphia.

Notably, that includes a mix of starting pitching, relief pitching and bats, underscoring the Phillies' apparent need to upgrade in multiple areas.

Bryce Harper certainly made headlines Tuesday when he told reporters, "I think we need some help" and could use "both" pitching and hitting.

It wasn't the first time he made such comments, which Matt Gelb of The Athletic reported "annoyed team officials."

Still, it is hard to argue with Philadelphia's need to improve if it is going to make a run this season.

It is an ugly 3-9 since the All-Star break and 1-7 in its last eight games. Things got particularly concerning Wednesday when it blew a 6-0 advantage in an 8-6 loss to the Miami Marlins to finish a sweep at the hands of its National League East rivals.

The Phillies are still in playoff position at 1.5 games ahead of the San Diego Padres for the final NL wild-card spot, but they have dropped into a tie with the Arizona Diamondbacks and 4.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the top wild-card seed.

What's more, they are 6.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the National League East.

Perhaps the struggling Blue Jays can offer something of a lifeline ahead of the trade deadline before Philadelphia falls out of the postseason picture entirely.
