Jahmyr Gibbs Posts Cryptic IG Photo Amid Absence from Lions Training Camp, 'Patiently Waiting'

Jahmyr Gibbs is "patiently waiting" at the start of training camp for the Detroit Lions.

The running back posted a cryptic photograph on social media with that caption Thursday, which was notable since The Athletic's Colton Pouncy reported Wednesday he was absent from training camp:

Gibbs has one more season remaining on his deal before the Lions' club option for the 2027 campaign.

While he is one of the best running backs in the league, he is a mere 31st in contract average at the position, per Spotrac. That is largely a result of being on a rookie deal since he was drafted in 2023, but he has significantly outperformed his current contract and figures to be in line for quite the extension.

At just 24 years old, Gibbs' resume includes three Pro Bowl selections in three seasons. He led the league with 16 touchdown runs and 20 total touchdowns in 2024 and has reached the end zone double-digit times in each of his three years.

He was once again excellent last season with 1,223 rushing yards, 616 receiving yards and 18 combined touchdowns while posting a career-high with 77 receptions as he became more of a threat in the aerial attack as well.

Any discussion about who the best running backs in the league are has to include the Alabama product, and it wouldn't be a surprise if he wants to be paid accordingly.

Detroit also seemingly made Gibbs even more valuable this offseason when they traded veteran David Montgomery to the Houston Texans.

"You guys know how we feel about Gibbs," Lions head coach Dan Campbell told reporters Wednesday. "... We'll take this [extension stuff] as it comes. ... It'll come as it comes. This is both sides working through something...that's where it is."

The latest step in the process is the running back taking to social media with a cryptic message.
