Jonathan Taylor Updates Colts Contract Talks Ahead of 2026 NFL Season, 'I Have Faith'

Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor is entering the final season of a three-year, $42 million extension signed in October 2023.

Per comments made to reporters at training camp (h/t Nathan Brown of the Indianapolis Star) Taylor wants to stay in town, and he has "faith" a deal will get done.

"I have faith," Taylor said.

"There have been some good conversations, but I have faith between my agent and the front office.

"Like I've said already, I would love to be a Colt for life, and I have faith that things are moving in the right direction."

The 27-year-old Taylor has played all six of his seasons with the Colts, who selected the ex-Wisconsin star with the 41st overall pick in the 2020 NFL draft. He's a three-time Pro Bowler who just led the league with 20 touchdowns from scrimmage. Taylor also amassed 1,963 total yards.

He was a major reason why the Colts looked like the AFC's best team in the first half of the season. Indianapolis was 7-1 through eight weeks and looked well on its way to the playoffs. However, a disastrous 1-8 finish led to the Colts' demise. Injuries played a part, including a season-ending Achilles tear to Daniel Jones on Dec. 7 against the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In the present day, Taylor is currently participating in the team's training camp with no plans to hold out (or hold in, for that matter). Colts general manager Chris Ballard spoke about that with reporters on Tuesday.

In the summer of 2023, following a meeting with then-Colts owner Jim Irsay, a contract dispute led to Taylor requesting a trade. However, the two sides worked things out in October of that year, and Taylor has been exceptional during this extension.

Now the two sides appear to be working well toward a new deal as the Colts hope to make the playoffs for the first time since 2020.
