Caitlin Clark Suspension Nears as Ruling on Latest Technical Foul Reportedly Made by WNBA

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark is officially at risk of an automatic one-game suspension should she receive another technical foul.

The Fever's appeal of Clark's seventh tech of the season has been denied by the WNBA, USA Today's Mitchell Northam reported Wednesday.

Clark was assessed the foul following an on-court argument with the Connecticut Sun's Saniya Rivers on July 22.

WNBA players and coaches are automatically suspended for one game without pay after receiving their eighth technical foul of the season.

Each technical after that point triggers a $1,500 fine and one-game suspension.

The incident between Clark and Rivers, which took place when Clark called for Rivers to look at the scoreboard around the 5:15 mark of the video below, resulted in both players receiving technical fouls.

Clark was asked after the game if she would change anything about her approach now that she knew her next tech would mean a suspension.

"I mean, I'm never going to back down... I think just try to continue to control your emotions the best you can," Clark answered.

"That intensity and that fire is what makes me, me. But also knowing my team needs me, and finding a good balance of that. But I don't think I'm going to be playing with that in the back of my head. I think that might hinder my play a little bit."

When asked if a suspension was "inevitable," Clark said, "I don't know. I can't predict the future."

Clark is averaging 21.5 points, 3.8 rebounds and 7.9 assists through 24 games of her third season with the Fever.

The Fever have climbed to the top of the Eastern Conference following an 8-2 run and are looking to stay there over the 16 games remaining in the regular season.

Should Clark face a suspension, Kelsey Mitchell and Aliyah Boston would be tasked with leading the team in her absence.

Clark is currently tied with the Atlanta Dream's Angel Reese for the most technical fouls in the WNBA this season.

Reese, who served out a one-game suspension during her last season with the Chicago Sky after picking up her eighth tech of the season, is again on the brink of sitting out a game after receiving her seventh of the 2026 campaign July 9.
