Brandon Aiyuk Wishes Commanders 'Great Luck' in New IG Post amid 49ers Contract Standoff

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk's thoughts are with the team he has made it clear he would rather be signed with ahead of training camp.

Aiyuk wished the Washington Commanders "great luck" in a story shared Wednesday to his Instagram story.

Aiyuk last played in the 2024 campaign before suffering a season-ending knee injury that October.

The 49ers decided last summer to void Aiyuk's guaranteed money for 2026 due to a dispute over his rehab process, but the wide receiver is still signed with the franchise through the 2028 campaign.

Aiyuk has made a series of social media posts throughout the offseason urging the 49ers to release him from his contract, asking the NFLPA to intervene and expressing his desire to play for the Commanders.

He most recently tagged the NFL and NFLPA in a series of posts shared Tuesday to his Instagram story.

Commanders general manager Adam Peters was asked during a Tuesday press conference what role social media posts play when evaluating potential player acquisitions.

"We do look at everything, and we want to make sure it's the right player to be in our locker room, in our bloodstream, in our culture. We look at that stuff," Peters answered.

He added with a smile, "That's not usually a huge part of it, usually."

The 49ers have made it clear the franchise would rather move Aiyuk through a trade than release him.

The Athletic's Matt Barrows and Nicki Jhabvala reported in April the Commanders "would likely consider a short-term, highly incentivized contract" should the Niners eventually cut Aiyuk.

The Commanders did not consider trading for Aiyuk, and his social media posts since then have "seemed to jeopardize his hopes of returning to an active NFL roster," Barrows and Jhabvala reported this week.

Aiyuk will for now remain without a clear plan in place to return to the field next season. He did not report when 49ers training camp opened Sunday.
