Josh Allen Responds to Critics of Bills' New 'Nickel City' Uniforms in Video, 'Stop Hating'

Josh Allen has bravely stepped up in defense of the Buffalo Bills' new "Nickel City" alternate jerseys.

Speaking to reporters from training camp practice on Wednesday, Allen explained the Bills "gotta be new" and the jerseys are meant to be "symbolic" of that attempt.

The Bills revealed the alternate jersey they will use for the 2026 season on Monday.

Online response to the jerseys was generally negative with some of the criticisms aimed at the bland color of the jersey top and generic helmet design.

CBS Sports' John Breech wrote the uniform "makes no sense" because it pairs a gray jersey with gray pants, though he didn't include among his ranking of the seven worst NFL uniforms of all-time.

The Bills have not yet announced which games they will don the "Nickel City" uniforms, but NFL rules do allow teams to wear alternate/classic uniforms up to four times in a season.

Even though Allen is being diplomatic in his response, he is correct that the 2026 season represents a new era for the franchise. The Bills are moving into their new stadium in Orchard Park after spending 52 years at Ralph Wilson Stadium.

Buffalo will play its first preseason game at the new Highmark Stadium on Aug. 15 against the Carolina Panthers. The Bills will officially open their new home in the regular season on Sept. 15 against the Detroit Lions.

If Allen and the Bills are finally able to get over the hump in the playoffs this season to reach the Super Bowl, all of the talk about the "Nickel City" jerseys will be a distant memory no one in Buffalo thinks about again.
