New Aaron Donald Update Given by Sean McVay in Rams Training Camp Video amid Latest Rumors

Los Angeles Rams head coach Sean McVay was asked whether there was an update on the potential return of defensive lineman Aaron Donald, a 10-time Pro Bowler, eight-time first-team All-Pro and three-time Defensive Player of the Year who played for the team from 2014-2023 before retiring.

McVay provided the following response from Loyola Marymount University, where the Rams are currently holding training camp.

"I have had conversations with him," McVay said. "We've kept in contact. He's feeling good. His training is going really well. But no new news on the front of like, any imminent decision on whether he's going to play."

The Rams, of course, would welcome Donald back with open arms if he wants to return. Donald is one of the best defensive players in NFL history and has a spot waiting for him in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday.

L.A., at this moment, is one of the best Super Bowl contenders on paper. Last year's team went 12-5 and reached the NFC Championship Game. One can argue the Rams were the NFL's second-best team after falling just short, 31-27, to the eventual Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks.

Then the Rams went out and had a great offseason, which included adding Defensive Player of the Year Myles Garrett and cornerback Trent McDuffie, a first-team All-Pro in 2023 and a second team All-Pro in 2024.

Seeing Donald on the same line as Garrett would be an absolute nightmare for opposing offenses. If the Rams' offense, which finished first in scoring last year with 518 points, excels yet again, then L.A. is in line for a great season.

Right now, Donald is still making his decision. Tuesday's news doesn't provide too much of an update from McVay's comments when training camp began, although it's clear L.A. would clearly sign him quickly if needed.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche previously reported that the lean is on Donald returning.

Earlier in July, Donald was even seen doing drills on the Rams' practice field, per TMZ Sports' Michael J. Babcock.

We'll find out soon enough if Donald returns. If so, he'd be in line to start his season in Melbourne, Australia, where the Rams open 2026 against the San Francisco 49ers on Thursday, Sept. 10.
