Notre Dame Unveils SoFi Uniform Patch in Photo After Historic Contract Agreement
Notre Dame athletics has landed the most lucrative jersey patch sponsorship deal in college sports history, according to Yahoo Sports' Ross Dellenger.
The Fighting Irish will wear a SoFi patch next season, the team announced Tuesday.
The jersey patch is part of a sponsorship deal worth between $18 to $20 million annually, according to Dellenger.
The SoFi logo will be featured on both game and practice uniforms for every varsity team at Notre Dame.
The branding deal is part of a "multi-year partnership," according to Notre Dame.
The partnership includes an annual program providing one-year full tuition scholarships to one walk-on student-athlete in both men's and women's sports, the Fighting Irish reported.
The news comes hours after Ohio State announced their own jersey patch sponsorship deal with JPMorganChase.
That reportedly set the previous record for the most lucrative jersey sponsorship in college athletics at between $15 million and $17 million annually, per Sports Business Journal's Ben Portnoy and ESPN's Pete Thamel.
The OSU deal also includes NIL opportunities for student athletes, according to the Buckeyes.
The NCAA approved a new rule allowing DI sports programs to place commercial logos on uniforms in January.
Logos were previously only allowed for the companies that produced the uniforms. DI teams can now display one commercial logo on equipment, as well as up to two commercial logos on uniforms and apparel during the preseason and regular season.
Teams can also add an additional logo for conference championship appearances, according to the NCAA. Thamel reported the College Football Playoff has also been "looking into" approving additional sponsorship patches for postseason football.
