Phillies Insider Says 'We Are Watching Everyone' amid 2026 MLB Trade Deadline Rumors

Even though Philadelphia Phillies president of baseball operations Dave Dombrowski is usually among the most aggressive executives when it comes to making talent acquisitions, the club isn't tipping its hand about anything specific that could be brewing leading up to the Aug. 3 trade deadline.

Per The Athletic's Matt Gelb, one Phillies team source simply said "we are watching everyone" right now.

Despite not being particularly helpful about positions they are looking to address, the Phillies have popped up in rumors for a starting pitcher, relievers and an outfielder.

Gelb previously reported last week that Philadelphia could end up prioritizing another starter, particularly due to the "dearth" of bats available and the fickle nature of relief pitching.

Philadelphia's outfield ranks last in MLB with an 81 wRC+ and a .290 on-base percentage. The bullpen ranks 22nd with a 4.39 ERA.

Starting pitching is already a strength for the Phillies with Cristopher Sánchez, Zack Wheeler and Jesús Luzardo as one of the best trios in MLB, but there are plenty of questions behind that group.

Aaron Nola has a 5.82 ERA 21 starts. Andrew Painter was demoted to Triple-A last month after posting a 7.06 ERA in 65 innings.

Tarik Skubal has been mentioned as someone the Phillies could try to get, but their limited farm system could be a hindrance toward getting a deal done with the Detroit Tigers.

The Phillies are set up well as presently constructed. Their 48-31 record since Don Mattingly took over as interim manager on April 28 is the third-best in MLB, behind the Milwaukee Brewers and Los Angeles Dodgers.

Since the Phillies got off to such a slow start this season, they are still 5.5 games behind the Atlanta Braves in the NL East. They are in the second wild-card spot in the NL, 3.5 games behind the Chicago Cubs for the No. 1 position.
