Jalen Ramsey Opens Steelers Camp on PUP, Updated Timeline for Return After Minicamp Injury Revealed

Veteran defensive back Jalen Ramsey opened Pittsburgh Steelers training camp on the physically unable to perform list on Tuesday.

According to ESPN's Brooke Pryor, Ramsey suffered an injury during minicamp, and Steelers general manager Omar Khan said Ramsey will need "a couple weeks" before he is healed up and ready to be activated from the PUP list.

Khan also told Pryor that Ramsey is dealing with a knee injury that did not require surgery, and the Steelers are "being smart" about working him back into the fold.

"It isn't something where we don't anticipate him being ready for the season," Khan said.

Ramsey is preparing to enter his second season in Pittsburgh after the Steelers acquired him, tight end Jonnu Smith and a seventh-round pick from the Miami Dolphins for defensive back Minkah Fitzpatrick and a fifth-round pick in a June 2025 trade.

The 31-year-old Ramsey is a 10-year NFL veteran who previously played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Los Angeles Rams and Dolphins.

Originally selected fifth overall in the 2016 NFL draft out of Florida State, Ramsey is among the most accomplished cornerbacks of his generation.

He is an eight-time Pro Bowler, three-time First Team All-Pro and one-time Super Bowl champion, and he is sixth among active players in career interceptions (25) and second among active players in career passes defended (116).

Last season, Ramsey started all 17 regular-season games for the Steelers and matched his career high with 88 tackles, while setting a new career high with three sacks.

Ramsey also finished with one interception and eight passes defended en route to his eighth career Pro Bowl selection.

He is lined up to be a key contributor for the Steelers' defense once again in 2026, potentially as the top nickel corner with Joey Porter Jr. and Jamel Dean as the starters on the outside.

The Steelers are scheduled to play their first preseason game on Aug. 13 against the Green Bay Packers, and they will kick off their regular-season slate on Sept. 13 against the Atlanta Falcons.
