Sheamus Addresses WWE Departure, 'Regrets' and Dream Match After 19 Years with the Company

Veteran Superstar Sheamus opened up about his departure from WWE after 19 years with the company.

While speaking on Adam's Apple, Sheamus said he's at peace with his decision to turn down a restructured contract with WWE, and his recent time off has allowed him to get back to his roots.

"Some circumstances came up. I can't really talk about it, obviously. But 19 years is a long time and it's a good crack," Sheamus said (h/t WrestlePurists). "I left Ireland in '07, so I haven't really had the luxury to go home and see my family and see my friends. The last couple weeks now, I've had a chance to kind of restructure that, and get back and catch up on birthdays and missed opportunities."

Sheamus was also asked about the Intercontinental Championship being the lone title that eluded him throughout his storied career, and he reiterated that he's satisfied with how things played out.

"I've had an amazing career, fella," he said. "No regrets. I mean it. No regrets."

As for the one match that eluded him before his departure from WWE, Sheamus revealed that he would've loved to share the ring with former United States Champion Ilja Dragunov.

"Ilja Dragunov is another guy I wanted to wrestle. He's just a lunatic. Same as me. He just wants to go out there, put the best fight he possibly can on," he said. "Ilja's another one I never got a chance to dance with, but if he gets a good opportunity, Ilja will be a big hit.
