The 7 Biggest Booking Risks Facing Triple H at WWE SummerSlam 2026
In addition to the many championships up for grabs and the scores that will be settled, WWE will have plenty to prove to fans with SummerSlam 2026 and what it means for the company's creative direction going forward.
The road to the event has been filled with ups and downs as well as a fair amount of frustration from fans hoping for a hotter product. Certain storylines have hit the mark in the weeks preceding the premium live event, but a majority of the matches haven't been the best built.
That said, SummerSlam has the potential to be a sleeper show on paper, provided everything is executed accordingly.
That means not only giving the Superstars time to shine when the bell rings but also getting it right with the outcomes and setting the stage for a strong second half of 2026.
These are the seven biggest booking risks Triple H faces at this year's installment of SummerSlam.
A Lack of Heel Turn in CM Punk vs. Cody Rhodes

The entire rivalry between CM Punk and Cody Rhodes heading into SummerSlam has been about respect, but that isn't bound to last much longer, especially following their heated altercation at Saturday Night's Main Event.
During their subsequent interaction on SmackDown, Rhodes made it abundantly clear that he had to beat Punk, almost implying that he'd go to great lengths to ensure that he did. He didn't say that he'd be willing to do it by any means necessary, but it did plant the seeds for a possible heel turn if WWE wanted to go in that direction.
Meanwhile, Punk was brought back to television in such a way earlier this month that could easily explain a heel turn. Rhodes' comments could have simply been a swerve to cover for a surprise Punk heel turn instead.
Either way, Triple H has to be careful about delivering a satisfying ending to that Undisputed WWE Championship clash. One of them decisively defeating the end may come off as anticlimactic unless something sinister is planned for afterward.
It isn't imperative either of them go rogue at SummerSlam, but WWE better have an epic ending in mind to leave fans looking forward to what comes next.
Solo Sikoa's Status as a Babyface

For as talked about as a heel turn for either Cody Rhodes or CM Punk has been, it's equally important for Solo Sikoa to stay babyface coming out of SummerSlam.
The former United States champion is as interesting as he's ever been in recent months thanks to his much-needed change in character. His alliance with LA Knight and Royce Keys has seen him show more personality and gradually get over as a fan favorite.
It would be typical of Triple H's booking to have Sikoa's war with The Bloodline result in him reuniting with the group and betraying Knight and Keys. That would be the worst outcome WWE could go with for the six-man tag team match.
The Bloodline lost its luster long ago, so there really is no worth in them winning at SummerSlam. At the very least, Sikoa must continue to embrace the audience as it's proven to be the right role for him at this point in his career.
Booking Gunther vs. Nick Aldis as an Attraction

Although much can be made of Gunther's inconsistent booking throughout 2026 despite retiring John Cena and AJ Styles in back-to-back months, he has absolutely made the most of his ongoing story with SmackDown general manager Nick Aldis and has turned it into a recurring highlight on Friday nights.
Having not wrestled a formal match in nearly three years, Aldis' first bout back should be an attraction. WWE has handled the buildup brilliantly so far and it would be a shame for it not to live up to the hype.
Aldis was always skilled between the ropes, but having him against Gunther be a straightforward singles match without any bells and whistles may not be what fans are looking for. There's still time for a Street Fight stipulation or something similar to be added, but even if it stays as is, Gunther vs. Aldis can still deliver with the right story.
Gunther's match with Pat McAfee at Backlash 2025 far exceeded expectations, and Gunther vs. Aldis can be just as entertaining if it follows that formula, except with Aldis being a bit more experienced as a wrestler.
The Ring General should win regardless, but how he goes about doing so will tell the tale of the match.

Overexposing Danhausen

Danhausen has been WWE's hottest sensation since arriving on the scene back at Elimination Chamber in February. He's sold a ton of merch so far and has become a beloved ambassador for the company in the mainstream media.
He can only ever be utilized in small doses, though, to avoid his magic and charm from wearing out its welcome. The tag team match he had at Backlash and his Saturday Night's Main Event encounter with JD McDonagh were dumb fun, but he can't be taken seriously against talent higher on the totem pole.
That's what makes his match with Dominik Mysterio at SummerSlam so egregious.
Realistically, Mysterio should have no issue putting away Mysterio seeing as how The King of the Luchadores pinned John Cena for the Intercontinental Championship less than a year ago. Instead, he's slotted in the comedy filler match of the night.
While there are others who should have made the SummerSlam card before him, Danhausen is a very valuable asset as such a fan favorite. It makes sense to feature him at the event, but not necessarily in this capacity, and his role should be kept to a minimum to avoid fans getting sick of his shtick.
Striking While the Iron Is Hot with Chad Gable

After years of being overlooked and underappreciated, Chad Gable is finally getting his long-awaited chance to shine as a singles star at SummerSlam when he challenges Penta for the Intercontinental Championship.
With the event emanating from his hometown of Minneapolis, it would be booking malpractice for Gable to not walk out the new champ.
It's now or never with Gable. For WWE not to capitalize on his hot momentum at SummerSlam would be a waste.
Pentha has had a terrific title reign, but Gable is the perfect person for him to beat him info and it's the perfect place, too. What's planned for Gable after that is anyone's guess, but just getting that elusive moment in front of his hometown.
Booking Gable to fail would send the message that he can't win when and where it matters most. This is what his whole story has been building to and they have to pay it off properly.
Limiting Faction Interference

Triple H's obsession with watering down match finishes with constant interference has been one of the biggest knocks on his style of booking since he took charge. That can't be the case at SummerSlam, specifically in the marquee matches scheduled for both nights.
The Judgment Day have been running rampant on Raw for months (of not years), so it's safe to assume that they'll get involved in Liv Morgan vs. Iyo Sky for the Women's World Championship. They could attempt to aid Morgan to victory, but it would only weaken the match similar to what we saw with her against Stephanie Vaquer at WrestleMania 42.
The same can be said for Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins for the World Heavyweight Championship. They've told their story based on their history and it's worked out well so far, but the vibe of the match could be in jeopardy if the rest of The Bloodline aim to make their presence felt.
Reigns and Rollins have proven in the past that their in-ring chemistry is top-notch, so saving interference for one or two matches in total would be an effective way of making it mean more when it does happen. This is not one of those matches.
Brock Lesnar To Be Cheered in His Home State?

A significant concern WWE should have at SummerSlam is whether hometown hero Brock Lesnar will be cheered against Oba Femi.
The Beast received "Thank You Lesnar" chants after leaving his boots in the ring and seemingly retiring at WrestleMania 42. He immediately revealed it to be a ruse a month later on Raw and went back to being a heel, but that doesn't mean his faithful fans in Minneapolis will treat him as anything other than one of their own.
Femi has been so wildly over with the audience for many months that he should be in fine standing with the crowd, but with this being a grand Hell in a Cell clash, Lesnar could end up getting favored slightly more with the implication being that this is his real retirement match.
Femi squashing Lesnar worked at WrestleMania, but it would backfire badly if WWE were to do something similar at SummerSlam. His ultimate triumph over his archrival should be celebrated, not seen as a step backward as he continues his ascent up the card.
