Freddy Peralta Addresses Mets Future Amid MLB Trade Rumors Ahead of Deadline

Freddy Peralta took the mound for the New York Mets for what could be the last time on Sunday.

The starting pitcher is one of the biggest candidates to be traded ahead of the Aug. 3 deadline, and he's well aware of that.

"I know it probably is," Peralta told reporters. "But I have to focus and keep giving the best of myself. And if it happens, it happens. I'm thankful and grateful to be part of this organization. I know that, so far, I've let them down. I haven't done what I'm supposed to do. But I'm grateful to be here."

The Mets acquired Peralta in January with hopes he could be a key starter for a team with World Series hopes, but that has been far from the case. New York is in last place in the NL East at 44-62 with virtually no chance of reaching the playoffs.

Peralta is 5-9 this year with a 4.99 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP.

"We haven't done what we were expected to do, in general, especially when I speak about myself," Peralta said. "I know that I can be way better than this. I still believe in myself. I am born to be a winner, not a loser. And I think that I have a lot in me, a lot to show, and I know that it can change because I still have time to make a change, to make it better."

While Peralta hasn't had the season he hoped for, both individually and as a team, potentially being traded could give him the chance to join a contender and make an impact in the postseason.
