Jackson Koivun Holds Off Scottie Scheffler to Win 3M Open in 3rd Pro Event, Final Leaderboard Scores

Jackson Koivun, who just turned 21 two months ago, has won his first PGA Tour event after holding off a late rally by Scottie Scheffler in the final round of the 3M Open on Sunday.

Koivun won with a 72-hole score of 25-under par, three shots ahead of Scheffler.

Koivun announced last month he would be foregoing his senior season at Auburn to turn pro. His final tournament as an amateur was the U.S. Open in which he finished tied for 23rd.

The 3M Open marked Koivun's third event as a professional. He got off to a slow start by missing the cut at the John Deere Classic, then rebounded two weeks ago by finishing tied for 10th at the ISCO Championship.

Per PGA Tour communications, Koivun is the eighth-youngest winner on the tour since 2017.

This weekend became a crowning moment for Koivun. He shot in the 60s all four rounds, highlighted by a 61 on Saturday and finished off his masterpiece with a 68 on Sunday.

There was a musical chairs feeling to the top of the leaderboard during the first three rounds. Ben Kohles led after Thursday before giving away to Michael Kim, who shot a 59 in the second round.

Koivun moved into the top spot on Saturday and didn't relinquish it. Scheffler gave himself a chance to win by shooting 15-under par over the final 36 holes after taking a 70 on Friday.

The late surge from Scheffler wasn't enough to close the gap as he chases his first win since January. He has finished in the top five in eight of his last 10 tournaments, including five second-place showings.

Koivun's win moved him up 124 spots to No. 70 in the FedEx Cup standings. The FedEx Cup playoffs start with the FedEx St. Jude Championship from Aug. 13-16.

Next up on the PGA Tour schedule is the Rocket Classic at Detroit Golf Club from July 30-Aug. 2.
