Jacoby Brissett, Cardinals Reportedly Agree to New Contract After Holdout Ahead of Training Camp

Jacoby Brissett is getting the new contract from the Arizona Cardinals he has been seeking throughout the offseason.

Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Brissett and the Cardinals agreed to terms on a reworked deal.

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport added the agreement will pay Brissett $15.5 million in 2026 with incentives that could push the total value up to $21 million.

After the Cardinals released Kyler Murray in March, Brissett was in the driver seat to be their starting quarterback in 2026. He used the opportunity to pursue a pay raise.

The 33-year-old was originally set to earn a $4.9 million base salary this season in the final year of his two-year, $12.5 million contract signed in March 2025. The only projected starter with a lower base salary in 2026 not a rookie contract is Geno Smith ($3.3 million).

ESPN's Josh Weinfuss reported last month that Brissett was holding out from offseason team activities because of his belief that "being a starting quarterback in the NFL should come with a paycheck that reflects that role."

The Cardinals and Carolina Panthers were the first two teams to report to training camp on July 22 since they will meet in the Hall of Fame Game on Aug. 6.

Despite the early report date and no new deal in hand at that time, Cardinals head coach Mike LaFleur told reporters on Thursday that Brissett would be on the practice field with the team.

It could have been an indication that Brissett and the Cardinals were making progress toward a deal. Gardner Minshew and Carson Beck, a third-round pick in the 2026 draft, are the projected backups to Brissett going into the regular season.

Brissett started the final 12 games for the Cardinals last season. He threw for 3,366 yards, 23 touchdowns and completed 64.9 percent of his attempts in 14 appearances during the 2025 campaign.
