Drake Maye Reacts to DeAndre Hopkins' Hand Size After Meeting NFL Legend at Patriots Camp
New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was a little taken aback when shaking hands with DeAndre Hopkins for the first time.
The MVP runner-up joked with reporters on Saturday the free-agent wide receiver has hands double the size of his.
"I'm from the South, and he went to Clemson, which is two hours down the road," Maye said. "That's my era of watching college football, and seeing him in the NFL, having him on my fantasy team — it's cool to shake his hand, and his hands are twice as big as mine. Just having him be out here, a legendary player to share some information, it's awesome."
Hopkins is a five-time Pro Bowler, and part of his past success is owed to the fact he has hands so large they require XXXL gloves. The Athletic Football Show's Robert Mays provided a visual back in 2016 for what that looks like:
At 34, Hopkins doesn't have the speed and explosiveness that made him one of the NFL's elite receivers with the Houston Texans and Arizona Cardinals. His playing days may be over altogether as he's dipping his toes into the coaching waters with New England.
Should Hopkins choose to hang it up, it's not because his catch radius has diminished at all.
