New Stefon Diggs Rumors, Commanders Buzz as NFL Teams Eye WR amid Training Camp

Joseph ZuckerJul 26, 2026

Free-agent wide receiver Stefon Diggs has gotten a level of interest from "at least five teams," according to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler.

Fowler said Sunday on SportsCenter the teams "have been checking in on his market, seeing how things are going as he works out on his own." Diggs, for his part, is confident he can be a "really good No. 2 receiver for a top quarterback" and likes the idea of playing for the Washington Commanders.

"Now, Washington is intriguing to him because Jayden Daniels, you have a quarterback whose from that DMV area," Fowler said. "The rumors around the league are that Washington could add a receiver at some point to get with Terry McLaurin, so something should shake out with Diggs. But hey look, these guys don't always want to go to training camp and be in the 90-degree heat, they can wait a week or two before they sign."

Fellow free-agent Brandon Aiyuk is determined to manifest his own move to the Commanders. He nonetheless remains a member of the San Francisco 49ers, and his frequent posting on social media might be dissuading Washington from making a run at him.

Diggs had a solid 2025 season with the New England Patriots considering he's in his mid-30s and was coming off a torn ACL. He caught 85 passes for 1,013 yards and four touchdowns while appearing in every regular season and playoff game.

The four-time Pro Bowler made his pitch to prospective suitors in a video he uploaded to YouTube earlier this month.

"There's not a No. 2 on a team — let's presumably give people the credit and just say, 'OK, you want to take the No. 1 spot away,'" he said (via ESPN.com). "Name your No. 2 receiver right now, and tell me how much he makes, and then my last question is: Is he better than me?"

The Commanders used a third-round pick on Clemson wideout Antonio Williams, and he could feature heavily in the slot as a rookie. Washington would benefit from signing a player with Diggs' profile, though, when Luke McCaffrey or Treylon Burks is likely to start outside opposite McLaurin.

Whatever team he chooses, Diggs may not want to wait too long. As tedious as training camp is, players on a new team need practice reps to build a rapport before the season kicks off.
