Edwin Diaz Injury Return Timeline Updated By Dodgers' Dave Roberts Amid Elbow Rehab

The Los Angeles Dodgers are about to get some help in the bullpen.

Closer Edwin Díaz is expected to return to the team on Wednesday, according to manager Dave Roberts:

Díaz, 32, joined the Dodgers this winter on a three-year, $69 million deal but was placed on the 60-day injured list in late April after having surgery to remove loose bodies from his right elbow.

"I was feeling good," Díaz told reporters on April 27. "But on Sunday in Colorado, I didn't feel comfortable throwing. So I told them, 'Hey, I feel weird. I can keep throwing, but my arm doesn't feel good. I feel tired.' And they sent me to get some images. And the loose body was there. So the decision was, just take the loose body out and rehab and be ready for the second half."

He made just seven appearances for the Dodgers before the surgery, going 1-0 with a 10.50 ERA, 2.33 WHIP and 10 strikeouts in six innings, recording four saves and one blown save. It was a far departure from what the three-time All-Star has offered throughout his career.

In his absence, the Dodgers gave Tanner Scott a second crack at the closer role after his disastrous 2025 campaign (10 blown saves, 4.74 ERA). He's been far better this time around, posting a 1-3 record with a 2.34 ERA, 0.76 WHIP and 54 strikeouts in 42.1 innings, recording 16 saves in 18 attempts.

With a healthy Díaz returning, the Dodgers now have the eighth and ninth innings locked down, though how they'll employ Díaz and Scott remains to be seen. A nice problem to solve for a Dodgers team that already has the best record in baseball (66-38).
