Aaron Donald's Potential Return to Rams, Decision Timeline Addressed by Sean McVay amid NFL Rumors

If Aaron Donald chooses to come out of retirement, the Los Angeles Rams will have a spot for him.

Head coach Sean McVay said Donald is currently "going through his process and putting himself in a position to make a decision." If that decision is to return to football, McVay said the Rams will make it happen.

The 35-year-old Donald hasn't played since 2023, but speculation about a potential comeback arose after the former star defensive tackle was seen working out at the Rams' facility earlier this month.

Reports then came out that Donald was contemplating a return, but hadn't made a firm decision yet. NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reported that if Donald returns, it might not be until later in training camp or even during the 2026 campaign.

Rapoport also noted that Donald likely wouldn't be a starter, but would instead play as "more of a spot guy."

Donald is one of the most dominant players ever at his position, having racked up 542 tackles, 111 sacks and 24 forced fumbles across 10 seasons, all with the Rams.

Even if Donald is no longer in his prime, having that kind of force as an option would be huge for Los Angeles' defensive line, which also landed Myles Garrett this offseason.
