Julio Rodriguez, Mariners Wear Jimothy the Raccoon Shirt in Trending Photo From Batting Practice

The Seattle Mariners are embracing a new pregame uniform in honor of their city's most famous raccoon.

Jack Duval shared a photo Friday of Julio Rodriguez wearing a shirt featuring "Jimothy" during batting practice.

Jimothy, a raccoon with a spinal deformity, became Internet famous after videos of him in the Seattle area went viral this summer.

He has since been featured on fan signs at T-Mobile Park and as a mascot participating in the club's in-game mascot race between four salmon.

The raccoon ultimately beat his salmon competitors to claim the win in the July 17 race.

The Mariners will hope bringing some more Jimothy references into the club's pregame prep will help the team bounce back from consecutive losses to the Cincinnati Reds.

Prior to dropping the Reds series, the Mariners had climbed back above .500 with a three-game win streak during which the team outscored its opponents 18-6.

After those two losses to the Reds, the Mariners have fallen back to two games behind the Cleveland Guardians for the final Wild Card spot in the American League.

The Mariners will hope their new batting practice outfits will help the club gain some ground on the Guardians with a road series-opening win Friday night against the Texas Rangers.
