Red Sox's Historic Win Streak Resulted in 'Thousands' of Free Meals From Boston Restaurant

For New England-based restaurant chain Ninety Nine, it was much more financially advantageous when the Boston Red Sox were struggling.

The chain has a promotion with the Red Sox where local kids get a free meal after the team wins. Families were all too happy to cash in during Boston's 15-game winning streak.

Front Office Sports' Ellyn Briggs and Griffin Senyek reported Ninety Nine distributed "thousands" of meals at a total cost ranging from $16,000 to $60,000 based on menu pricing.

One Boston resident, Kory Janelle, told Briggs and Senyek he and his family visited the restaurant around eight times during the streak.

"When we showed up, they already knew why we were there," he said. "During the streak, I honestly started to find myself caring less about the Red Sox and more about whether I wouldn't have to pay for my kids' dinner again."

The Red Sox are still just three games over .500 (52-49) after matching their franchise-record winning run. Ninety Nine wasn't having to honor that many free meal promotions when the team was so sluggish coming out of the gate.

Based on how Boston is performing now, participating Ninety Nine locations may want to adjust their profit expectations for the remainder of the summer.
