New Aaron Donald Rumors Update Probability of Rams Return for 2026 NFL Season

Retired star Aaron Donald hasn't made a decision about a potential NFL comeback, but the general sense is that he'll return to the Los Angeles Rams, according to NFL Network's Steve Wyche.

Wyche reported Donald is not only hitting the gym hard but also going through "on-field work" to see if he's physically up for playing again.

In early June, Donald told ESPN's Pat McAfee and NFL insider Jordan Schultz he was intrigued by the idea of suiting up for the Rams after they acquired Myles Garrett.

A month later, TMZ Sports obtained footage of the three-time Defensive Player of the Year working at the Rams facility:

Like Wyche, ESPN's Adam Schefter reported this week on his podcast that nothing is for sure, and a resolution may not arrive soon. The NFL insider suggested Donald could wait "all summer long" before he's ready to either come back or abandon the idea altogether.

Donald has been out of the game for two years, and he turned 35 in May. He might be one of the greatest defensive players in history, but even he isn't immune to the effects of aging.

Nobody would be expecting Donald to be a peak version of himself, though, and the combined presence of Garrett and Byron Young on the edge would alleviate some pressure on him along the interior of the line.

Assuming the salary cap math works, it's worth it for the Rams to see how much he has left in the tank.
