Caitlin Clark's Technical Foul Reportedly Being Appealed by Fever Amid Potential Upcoming Suspension

Indiana Fever star Caitlin Clark picked up her seventh technical foul during Wednesday's 123-88 win over the Connecticut Sun, leaving her just one tech away from earning an automatic one-game suspension.

But ESPN's Alexa Philippou reported during Thursday's NBA Today (1:30 mark) that she's been "told by a team source that the technical foul from yesterday has been appealed. Not yet heard a decision. The Fever also appealed the technical foul [Clark] was given during their July 18 game against the New York Liberty. That one was not rescinded."

Wednesday's technical came after some trash talk between Clark and Sun guard Saniya Rivers.

"She said she was locking me up, so I said, 'Scoreboard,' and the ref didn't like that," Clark told reporters following the win.

Clark said the possibility of a suspension should she earn another technical wouldn't change how she plays.

"I'm never going to back down," she told reporters. "I think just continue to try to control your emotions the best you can. That intensity and that fire is what makes me me, but also knowing my team needs me and finding a good balance of that. But I don't think I'm going to be playing with that in the back of my head."

Nobody was locking Clark up on Wednesday—she scored 27 points, hit five threes and dished out 11 assists, though she did have six turnovers. The Fever, meanwhile, set a franchise record for points scored in a game.

The concern, however, is that Clark—who is currently tied with Angel Reese for the most techs in the WNBA—would not only face a one-game suspension for her next technical foul, but also a suspension for every two technicals after that as well.

The Fever still have 17 games remaining, leaving plenty of chances for her to earn another technical. In that regard, the Fever will certainly be hoping this appeal goes their way.
