Glen Powell to Play Lou Gehrig in Movie About Yankees Legend, Details Revealed

Actor Glen Powell is set to play Lou Gehrig in an untitled movie about the New York Yankees legend, according to Deadline's Justin Kroll.

Per Kroll, Richard Linklater is set to direct the film while Saturday Night Live creator and lifelong Yankees fan Lorne Michaels will produce.

Although it's unknown which periods of Gehrig's life will be featured in the movie, his former New York teammate Babe Dahlgren is said to have an important role (h/t MLB.com's Brian Murphy).

After Gehrig set an MLB record with 2,130 consecutive games played, his streak ended after Dahlgren replaced him at first base in 1939.

Gehrig helped the Yankees win seven World Series titles throughout his Hall of Fame career with the club from 1923-39. He earned seven All-Star nods and two American League MVP awards.

Gehrig sits at No. 2 on the Yankees' all-time hits list and holds the No. 3 spot on their all-time games played leaderboard.

His MLB career ended prematurely after he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a neurodegenerative disorder that has also become known as Lou Gehrig's disease.
