Chiefs Unveil Rendering Photos of $3B Stadium Set to Open in 2031 After Arrowhead Exit

The Kansas City Chiefs laid out the vision for their planned stadium they hope to open in 2031.

The franchise showed a photo of the interior along with shots of the exterior:

Chiefs owner Clark Hunt announced last December the team will eventually leave Arrowhead Stadium behind and relocate to Kansas City, Kansas.

As far as franchise moves go, swapping Kansas City, Missouri, for the other Kansas City isn't a major change.

But a big chunk of the fanbase will be sad to see Arrowhead Stadium go. The venue has witnessed plenty of history in its 50-plus years of operation, and it will always be associated with what has been the Chiefs' most successful period.

Moving into a domed stadium is likely to be divisive as well. Sitting in cold, windy or wet conditions isn't that much fun as a fan, but it can add to the atmosphere. Some consider sitting in the stands in those situations as a badge of honor.

Teams in colder cities can also get quite a home-field advantage. The temperature in Kansas City's 2024 divisional round win over the Miami Dolphins was minus-four degrees.

Alas, the Chiefs' stadium plans are part of a wider trend as NFL teams increasingly embrace a climate-controlled atmosphere that will potentially open the door for staging more events outside of the football calendar.

The Chiefs estimate their stadium will cost around $3 billion.
