Jazz Chisholm Jr. Open to New Yankees Contract But Focused on Winning MLB World Series

New York Yankees second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. is an impending free agent, and he was asked during an interview with Boardroom about what he's looking for in a new deal. He responded by saying he's focused right now on the season and winning a World Series while also noting his love for New York.

"I'm going to be real with you. I don't even know, bro. I've never been in that position to even…And I haven't been in it yet. So to be there to tell you, dang, I know what I'm looking for in free agency. Honestly, right now, all I'm trying to do is go win that World Series.

"And then after that, I'll probably think about it. But right now, it's just like I love New York, especially that I'm playing here right now. I would never want to leave. You know what I mean? So to say that I'm out here looking to go to another team or looking for a new contract in a different way, it's not really [like that]."

Prior to the season, Chisholm mentioned specific numbers he's looking for in his next contract, per Randy Miller of nj.com.

"What did I tell you last year? $300 million? It's probably bigger than that now, probably $35 million," Chisholm said.

He also said: "I'm 28. I want 8-10 years," regarding a potential contract extension.

Chisholm, who is earning $10.2 million this year, is hitting .228 (.726 OPS) with 16 home runs and 43 RBI this season. He's a two-time All-Star (2022, 2025) who has played his seven-year career with the Miami Marlins and Yankees, who acquired Chisholm via trade in July 2024.

Back in February, ESPN analyst Paul Hembekides predicted his contract value could be $80 million over two year or $140 million over four years based on his WAR (wins above replacement).

Chisholm had just enjoyed his best season, with a 4.1 WAR in 2025. He also had 31 home runs, 31 stolen bases and a .813 OPS.

His numbers have dipped in 2026, and it's hard seeing him land a $35 million salary over eight to 10 years.

Chisholm has caught fire of late, though, hitting .368 with three homers and seven RBI in his last five games. He just hit two of those homers in an 8-5 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates on Monday.

Chisholm will look to stay hot on Wednesday when the Yankees host the Pittsburgh Pirates for a day-night doubleheader.
